Deputies from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office were called at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Thursday, April 13 to a stretch of Legore Bridge Road, where there were multiple reports of a crash in the area involving an allegedly suicidal or homicidal person, officials said.

Upon arrival, investigators found a totaled car in the roadway and a flatbed truck that had been driven straight into a tree with its driver fleeing the area on foot.

In quick order, the deputies were able to apprehend the truck driver without incident, and while checking the flatbed, a loaded handgun was recovered, according to investigators.

Following the crash, the other victim of the crash was taken to Frederick Health Hospital for treatment and evaluation of minor injuries.

The sheriff’s office did not release the names of any involved parties. The incident led to road closures for nearly three hours on Thursday morning.

Charges for the truck driver include:

  • Loaded handgun in vehicle;
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol;
  • Leaving the scene of a crash.

No information about a court date or bond has been announced by the sheriff’s office.
